Day 1 Amtrak Overnight to Denver/
Amtrak Through The Rockies (B, L, D)
You’re about to embark on a nostalgic journey on
our California Zephyr Adventure. Board Amtrak
at midnight or later from several stations across
Nebraska and Iowa. Sleep in your own private
compartment as you make your way across the
plains. It’s daylight when you arrive in Denver.
Wake up to enjoy breakfast on the train in the
diner. It’s just like the old days. Then, sit back
and relax as the incredible scenery of the Rockies
passes by your large viewing window. Head back
to the lounge car for a floor to ceiling view of
the incredible scenery that unfolds. You’ll enjoy
breakfast, lunch and dinner in the diner during
this incredible journey. Your room steward will
help prepare your cabin for your evening as you
ride the rails.
Day 2 Virginia City/Carson City/Lake
Tahoe Dinner Cruise (B, D)
This morning enjoy your last meal on the train
before arriving in Reno. Depending on the train
schedule and your time of arrival, your sightseeing
this morning will include historic Virginia City
where your local guide will provide the history,
geology and characters that made up this gold
rush boom town. Walk the wooden sidewalks
of yesteryear and browse the saloons, museums,
casinos and gift shops for a step into the Wild
West past. Take a brief tour of Carson City,
Nevada’s capitol, where you’ll see such sights
as the Governor’s Mansion, the Nevada State
Museum, the Legislative buildings, Capitol Mall,
and more. Head to South Lake Tahoe, everyone’s
favorite, where you’ll enjoy some “R & R” at
your beautiful hotel. Transfer to Zephyr Cove
where you’ll board the MS Dixie II Paddlewheeler
for a dinner cruise on Lake Tahoe. The natural
beauty of Lake Tahoe provides dazzling vistas of
the Sierra and the dramatic splendor of Emerald
Bay. An elegant dinner is served as you cruise the
pristine water said to be 99% pure.
Day 3 Napa Valley Tour/San Francisco
(B, L)
Today, tour famous Napa Valley with its rolling
hills and picturesque vineyards that dot the
countryside. Your local guide will provide a narrative as to the importance of the soil and weather conditions that make Napa Valley wines
so famous around the world. Enjoy a picnic
lunch at one of the wineries. Your hotel is ideally
located right in Fisherman’s Wharf! Evening at
leisure.
Day 4 San Francisco Tour/Alcatraz Tour/
Pier 39 (B, D)
This morning, your local guide will take you on
a tour of San Francisco to include Twin Peaks,
Seal Rocks, the Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower,
Fisherman’s Wharf and more. This afternoon
is reserved for a Fun Tours exclusive – a tour
of Alcatraz Island. See where the Bird Man of
Alcatraz spent his time, as well as other notorious
prisoners. If you choose not to participate on the
Alcatraz tour, a credit of $26 will be applied to
your tour. Spend time at Pier 39 with all sorts of
shops and eateries, as well as maybe getting a close
up view of the harbor seals that make the wharf
their home. This evening, join your friends at a
special dinner in Chinatown.
Day 5 Scenic Highway 1 / Redwood Forest
Steam Train / Cannery Row / 17 Mile Drive / Dinner on the Monterey Pier (B, L, D)
Today, travel to Monterey via the spectacular
coastal route – Highway 1. It’s here where the
land meets the sea as you travel along this toprated
scenic highway. Ride through the towering
redwoods hundreds of years old on a 19th
century steam train at Roaring Camp. Take time
to stroll Cannery Row, made famous by author
John Steinbeck. Travel Pacific Grove Loop that
takes you past beautiful homes nestled right at
the ocean’s edge. 17 Mile Drive, one of the most
breathtaking coastal drives in the world is next.
Meander through the Del Monte forest and see
the famed Lone Cyprus Tree, perhaps the most
photographed tree in the world along with an up
close look at the million dollar homes. Stop at
Pebble Beach Golf Course and see the 18th hole
and beautiful lodge. Your last evening will be
special when you enjoy a delicious dinner on the
Monterey Pier with your travel mates.
Day 6 Cable Car Ride/Travel Home (B)
The fun’s not over yet as one cannot visit San
Francisco without a ride on a cable car. Depending on flight schedules, you’ll either have time to shop Ghiradelli Square and visit Maritime
National Historic Pier, or head directly to the
airport for your flight home. The
tune “If You’re Going to San Francisco” will ring
in your ears as you board your flight home after a
fantastic California Zephyr Adventure.
